Every few months, we interview a person of the SATAA to get more insight into who is part of our community. This time, we interview Alex van Oostveen, the new Secretary of the SATAA.

Alex

Judith:
Alex, you are the new Secretary of the SATAA. What is your background and how did you come to know TA?
My 19 year career until November 2014 was as a military aviator. I had been exposed to TA quite early on as a means to nurturing healthy relationships within my workplace and it took quite a while for me to ‘wake up’ to thinking, in a TA sense. This pretty much happened when I did a coaching course with quite a strong TA theme in 2007/8. My TA 101 happened a year later and it was a powerful moment in my self development and awareness.

Judith:
What has been the biggest impact of your introducing TA to a person or an organisation that you have seen?

Alex:
The biggest impact? That would undoubtedly be in my relationship with my fiancée. Word also has it that my future mom in law is going to do a TA 101 soon, now that’s a major thing for any son in law!

Judith:
What are some of the things you do that ‘feed’ your natural child, that you love doing?

Alex:
Racing my superbike on the track, cooking with my fiancée and listening to my favourite music (loudly). Did I mention riding my bike?

Judith:
What excites you the most about being the new Secretary of the SATAA?

Alex:
I think we are a relatively young organization and there is plenty of work to do to realize our deliverables. That gives lots of scope for creativity and engaging with current and potential members. I love that kind of thing. There’s also so much opportunity to learn about life outside the military here and I’m passionate about that.

Judith:
Thanks so much Alex, that’s truly an amazing interview!
